Q&A

Wondering about something? Here are some answers to your Ding related questions.

Who’s behind this?

Ding is made by Tight – a design and tech consultancy in Oslo, Norway. We released the first version back in 2013, and have been running it since.

Can I use Ding on my phone?

You sure can. Ding should work great on all your devices.

Are there limitations on the mobile version?

Nope. Every big screen (desktop) feature is available on mobile devices.

Do you have an app?

Unfortunately, we don’t. Being a small team with limited time and resources, we’re focusing our efforts on the web – both mobile and desktop.

I’ve found a bug. Where can I report it?

Send an email to support@ding.io and give us some info about the problem and what browser you’re running. We promise to get to it asap.

Can everyone on my team see all entries and projects?

Yes. Non-admin users will however be restricted from organization and subscription settings.

Logging time

How do I log time?

Logging in Ding is done in two ways: manual entry or using the timer. Both accessible from the log box.

With manual entries, you fill in the time, select a project, and comment if you like. If you’re logging for a day in the past, change the date. A tip here is to use the time input in different ways: “1” for one hour, “1h 30m” or “1:30” if minutes are involved, or even 0930-1100 if you want Ding to do the math for you.

The timer is basically a stopwatch you start and stop. Set a project and comment (like with manual entries), and submit it whenever you’re done.

How do I edit an entry?

Click the pencil icon on an entry to make changes. Pressing ‘Edit entry’ will take you to the full edit modal. You can also do quick edits right from the dropdown: set billing status, change the date and project – or even delete it.

Can I log on behalf of someone else?

You can indeed. Log the time as yourself, open the edit modal from the pencil icon, and change the team member.

Can I break down my projects into tasks?

Not as a feature itself, but you can specify what you do through comments.

Digging deep

How do I find specific entries?

If you’re gonna dive into the past, the Filter is your friend. Go to the Filter page and make your selection, from time intervals to projects and people. Even billing status can be included.

In addition to the list of entries, you’ll get a nice infographic with stats summarizing the whole thing. Handy when the list grows big. A typical filter is Project X for last month, all unbilled entries for Client Y, everything from last year – you get the idea.

After running a filter, you can mark all those entries as billed or export them to a PDF document.

What kind of stats do I have at hand?

As you log time, Ding will be full of statistics and numbers giving your an overview of how you (and your team) have spent your time:

  • A graph of all time and money in Activity (the frontpage). Toggle between day, week, month and year to break it down.
  • A graph inside a project, showing you the numbers for this specific project.
  • Running a filter with just the entries you’re after will present you with stats from these entries.
  • The Projects page contains some handy numbers for both featured projects, the full project list and archived ones.

Projects

Is there a limit to how many projects I can create?

Nope. Create as many as you like.

Can I archive projects when they’re done?

Yes. This is easily done through the pencil icon in the Projects page. Archived projects will be placed at the bottom of the list and not appear in the project selector when logging time.

Am I required to include budget and hourly price ?

No, this is optional.

Subscription & Billing

What does it cost?

Ding is free to try for 30 days. After that, you have two pricing options: the Solo plan for $10/month, and the Team plan for $25/month.

What payment options are available?

We accept a range of payment cards, including Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

Your payment information is securely stored at Braintree.

How often do I pay?

We bill your subscription monthly.

Can I cancel at any time?

Yes, you can cancel your subscription whenever you want. After cancelling, you will still have access to your entries. Logging time will be blocked when your subscription runs out.

Can I pause my subscription?

Yes – cancelling will essentially be a pause until you decide to return. Simply resume your subscription and you’ll be able to start logging time again.

Do you support invoicing?

We don’t. Ding is focused solely on time tracking.

Where can I find my receipts?

Go to Settings in the top right corner and choose Receipts. Here you can download any of your previous receipts.

How can I send my hours to a client along with an invoice?

Go to the Filter page and select out the entries you want. After filtering, you’ll get download links for both .pdf and .csv format.

Users

How do I add a new user?

If you’re an admin, go to Settings and Users to send someone an invite.

What special powers do admins get?

Admins can manage users, edit the organization and deal with the subscription.

How do I delete a user?

Same as above - but this time choose the pencil icon for the user you’d like to delete. Then you’ll see a bright red delete button.

What if I forgot my password?

Go to the reset password page and request a new one. We’ll send you an email with a link to create a new password. If the email doesn’t arrive, check your spam folder.

I forgot to sign out somewhere public. What do I do?

Fear not! There’s an option under Settings called Active sessions where you can sign out all logged in devices. Sessions will also expire after two weeks without activity.
